Keep Your Holidays Healthy

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

By Richelle Knowles, D.C.

The holiday season is upon us. It officially begins on Halloween and ends at the New Year. It is a time filled with parties, presents, food and lots of hustle and bustle. Americans on average gain 14 pounds from October 31st to January 1st. That means some people gain up to 21 pounds in a 2-month period. For some reason we have allowed ourselves to use the holidays as an excuse to stop taking care of ourselves. We feel we are too busy shopping, baking and traveling. We stop eating right and stop exercising on top of having the addition stress of traveling and dealing with family dynamics. First, there’s candy at Halloween. Our National day of giving thanks follows where rather than honor our bodies with a cleanse we have a Thanksgiving feast gorging ourselves until we cant eat anymore or until someone offers us another piece of pie. Of course we follow a day like that with a fast, rather than eating leftovers. The month of December is one holiday party followed by another with it all culminating on New Years Eve. Then come January, when we are all ill we call it the “flu season”. As if none of our actions the last few months effected our susceptibility. How could we expect not to get ill after abusing our bodies for several months.

This is a time when we need to take care of ourselves even more, a time to be grateful and thankful for all the we have and all that we are. Keep yourself and your health a priority. Go to the gym, eat an extra serving of veggies instead that second piece of pumpkin pie, and find time to relax, focus inward, and contemplate your gratitude for your life and those that are part of it. Remember to stick to your recommended visit frequency and stay on track with your care.

Wellness is not about reacting to health conditions after they are severe. Nor is wellness about taking actions solely to prevent a condition. Wellness is not about a condition at all. Wellness is about being the greatest expression of your body’s inborn infinite wisdom that you can be so you can live with the greatest quality of life possible. A healthy spine and nerve system helps you adapt to the stresses and demands you put upon yourself. Your immune system is coordinated by your nerve system. Research demonstrates that Network is the greatest stress buster available on the planet. Time and time again we hear people say how differently that respond to and adapt to stress since they began receiving Network Care and how they get ill much less frequently. Make your holiday season a happy and healthy one. Don’t wait until the New Year to make your resolutions to be the best you. Keep your nerve system working at it’s best so that you can breeze through the New Year with joy and ease.

Dr. Richelle Boulder Healthy Vanilla Frozen Coffee Recipe

Monday, September 12th, 2011

1 cup of Vanilla Unsweetened Almond Milk

1/2 cup of Ganovia Arabica Coffee

½ of a dropper of Vanilla Crème Liquid Stevia

8-10 ice cubes

Ganovia is packed with antioxidants and has less caffeine than regular coffee.  Unsweetened almond milk can have as little as 35-40 calories per serving.   Put ice cubes in a blender and pour at least 1 cup of almond milk over the ice.  Brew the coffee by filling ½ of a coffee cup full of boiling water and then fill the rest of the cup with cold water.  Add the coffee to the blender.  Add the liquid Stevia.  Blend on high for 30 seconds.  Enjoy!
