What is Somato Respiratory Integration? SRI is a set of 12 exercises that utilize a combination of breathing, spinal movement & touch to increase your ability to be aware & connected in your body. The more unaware, or “checked out,” you are from your body experience, the more likely symptoms are to increase as a way of getting your attention back into your body. Noticing how your body breathes & moves gives you a “homing beacon” for locating and tracking you in the midst of all the busy input of your daily life. SRI exercises are useful on a daily basis for being more aware of your body’s natural rhythms, which helps your mind to become more relaxed & settled. This transition out of stress allows your mind to move beyond what’s not working and into the growth & thriving of what’s possible.
When your brain is paying attention to your body, it means that you are able to notice building tension as it’s happening, or shortly after. This mind-to-body connection allows you to make the necessary “adjustments” that will help you to regain your focus. It’s when we don’t notice this build-up, and are therefore unable to respond, that we get aggravated symptoms which sometimes feel like too much to handle. This build-up of tension can be due to the physical stress of moving in a specific or repeated way, or from a lack of movement. It can be caused from an overload of emotional input from changes in our environment or from conflicts that we don’t know how to resolve. Emotional tension can also build by not allowing ourselves to be expressive as we are experiencing our emotions. Sometimes, this build-up of tension occurs due to chemical exposure – from food, drugs, alcohol, cleaners, smoke, etc. – as the body’s ability to filter these pollutants is overwhelmed. And, other times, we actually need to recognize that tension is building to establish momentum for growth, so that we will have the fuel to create meaningful change at the right time. Through the support of these 12 simple exercises, you can gain access to the valuable internal cues that will help you to notice when this build-up of tension is happening. These cues are your body’s early-alert system for keeping you safe – from harm, accidents & injury – as well as helping you to be prepared to accept & ready to make changes when needed.

If you’re one the 2 million Americans who experience a whiplash injury each year, here’s some good news: Chiropractic adjustments can deliver lasting pain relief and correction from misaligned spinal bones (vertebrae).
Whiplash occurs when the head is suddenly jerked back and forth, or side to side. This movement forces the neck beyond its normal movement limits, tearing muscles, ligaments and tendons. In some cases, the discs between the vertebrae of the neck may rupture, or bones may fracture. The most severe cases of whiplash involve trauma to the spinal cord and brain.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to be speeding to suffer a whiplash injury. Accidents at speeds of only five miles per hour have produced whiplash. More troubling is that the symptoms of whiplash do not always occur immediately; it can take months to develop.
The solution?
If you’re involved with any type of collision, have your spine checked by your chiropractor, then and allow your body to heal itself naturally. The sooner you can restore proper alignment of the spine and neck vertebra, the less pain you will experience. Chiropractic is also an excellent way to divert the possibility of developing arthritis later in life, a condition that has been linked to whiplash.
Drs. Daniel & Richelle Knowles of Network Family Wellness Center appear on CBS 4 discussing the benefits people experience from care at Network Family Wellness Center. Mom was right after all—we need to eat our vegetables, and lots of them, if we want to protect ourselves against cancer.
According to the US Cancer Society 1.4 million new cancer cases are expected per year as well as over 500,000 deaths per year. this makes cancer the 2nd leading cause of death even with all our nation’s medical technology. This carries a total annual price tag of $74 billion in direct medical costs. The good News is that the American Cancer Society also says 75%-80% of cancer deaths are preventable.
According to a wave of studies, scientists have found compelling and consistent data associating diets rich in vegetables and fruits with a lower risk of cancer. This is great news for you.
Of the 200-plus global studies that were conducted, scientists safely conclude that a plant-rich diet puts people at a lower risk for developing tumors. Data from one particular area of research found that a diet rich in vegetables and grains slashed the risk of colon cancer by 40 percent. Another study found that women who regularly ate little to no vegetables were 25 percent more prone to develop breast cancer.
What is in vegetables and fruits that wards off cancer? John D. Potter, and epidemiologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle says, “We’re discovering a plethora of bioactive substance in plant foods.” This substance is being labeled as a “phytochemical”. In a nut shell, these phytochemicals are naturally occurring compounds that interfere with the growth of cancer by slowing down, stopping or even reversing cancer’s damage.
Additionally, studies have shown that if the rates of DNA damage exceed the rate of repair it, the accumulation of errors can overwhelm the cell and result in early aging, cell self distruction, or cancer. Inherited diseases associated with faulty DNA repair functioning result in premature aging, increased sensitivity to carcinogens, and correspondingly increased cancer risk. On the other hand, organisms with enhanced DNA repair systems, exhibit remarkable resistance to even the double-strand break-inducing effects of radioactivity, likely due to enhanced efficiency of DNA repair. Independent of age, sex or taking nutritional supplements, long-term chiropractic care of two or more years re-established a normal physiological state of DNA repair in patients.
Patients receiving chiropractic care showed higher mean serum thiol levels, compared to patients with active disease, and produced some values that were higher than normal wellness values.
Simply stated, as we live life, we are subjected to physical, biochemical, and psychological stress. Our ability to repair damaged DNA is an important factor in health and longevity. Oxidative stress is now a broadly accepted theory of how we age and develop disease. Oxidative stress results in DNA damage, and inhibits DNA repair. In short, we now have evidence that chiropractic adjustments affect the chemistry of biological processes on a cellular level.
Take a proactive stance to protect your body from cancer. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits each day, and make chiropractic adjustments part of your healthy lifestyle. It all works together to give you a better quality of life.
