Chiropractor in boulder shares simple ways to get happy

Simple Ways to Get Happy

Take control of your mood and improve your health.

Here are (9) ideas to get you started. Choose the ones that work for you. If tuning out the news or making lists will serve only to stress you further, try one of these approaches.

1. Practice mindfulness. Be in the moment. Instead of worrying about tomorrow

2. Laugh out loud. Just anticipating a happy, funny event can raise levels of endorphins and other pleasure-inducing hormones and lower production of stress hormones. Researchers at the University of California, Irvine, tested 16 men who all agreed they thought a certain videotape was funny. Half were told three days in advance they would watch it. They started experiencing biological changes right away. When they actually watched the video, their levels of stress hormones dropped significantly, while their endorphin levels rose 27 percent and their growth hormone levels (indicating benefit to the immune system) rose 87 percent.

3. Go to sleep. We have become a nation of sleep-deprived citizens. Taking a daily nap or getting into bed at 8 p.m. one night with a good book — and turning the light out an hour later — can do more for your mood and outlook on life than any number of bubble baths or massages.

4. Hum along. Music soothes more than the savage beast. Studies find music activates parts of the brain that produce happiness — the same parts activated by food or sex. It’s also relaxing. In one study older adults who listened to their choice of music during outpatient eye surgery had significantly lower heart rates, blood pressure, and cardiac workload (that is, their heart didn’t have to work as hard) as those who had silent surgery.

5. Declutter. It’s nearly impossible to meditate, breathe deeply, or simply relax when every surface is covered with papers and bills and magazines, your cabinets bulge, and you haven’t balanced your checkbook in six months. Plus, the repetitive nature of certain cleaning tasks — such as sweeping, wiping, and scrubbing — can be meditative in and of itself if you focus on what you’re doing.

6. Just say ‘No’. Eliminate activities that aren’t necessary and that you don’t enjoy. If there are enough people already to handle the church bazaar and you’re feeling stressed by the thought of running the committee for yet another year, step down and let someone else handle things.

7. Make a list. There’s nothing like writing down your tasks to help you organize your thoughts and calm your anxiety. Checking off each item provides a great sense of fulfillment.

8. Do one thing at a time. Edward Suarez, Ph.D., associate professor of medical psychology at Duke, found that people who multitask are more likely to have high blood pressure. Take that finding to heart. Instead of talking on the phone while you fold laundry or clean the kitchen, sit down in a comfortable chair and turn your entire attention over to the conversation.

9. Tune out the news. For one week go without reading the newspaper, watching the news, or scanning the headlines online. Instead, take a vacation from the misery we’re exposed to every day via the media and use that time for a walk, a meditation session, or to write in your journal.

Boulder Chiropractor Warns Against Energy Drinks

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Abusing Energy Drinks

More than 500 ‘NEW’ energy drinks launched worldwide this year, and coffee fans are probably too old to understand why. Energy drinks aren’t merely popular with young people. They taste like carbonated cough syrup.

Vying for the dollars of teenagers with promises of weight loss, increased endurance and legal highs, the new products join top-sellers Red Bull, Monster and Rockstar to make up a $3.4 billion-a-year industry that —grew by 80 percent last year.

Thirty-one percent ofU.S.teenagers say they drink energy drinks, according to Simmons   Research. That represents 7.6 million teens, a jump of almost 3 million in three years.

Nutritionists warn that the drinks, laden with caffeine and sugar, can hook kids on an unhealthy jolt-and-crash cycle. The caffeine comes from multiple sources, making it hard to tell how much the drinks contain. Some have B vitamins, which when taken in megadoses can cause rapid heartbeat, and numbness and tingling in the hands and feet.

But the biggest worry is how some teens use the drinks. Some report downing several cans in a row to get a buzz, and a new study found a surprising number of poison-center calls from young people getting sick from too much caffeine.

“Wow, this drink is some serious stuff. I mean about half the bottle is the warning label, and it is serious, this drink is INSANE. It says that you should not drink it unless you are over 18, which I would say is a good warning.” —

They’ve grown up watching their parents drink Starbucks coffee, and WANT their own version. Heart palpitations aren’t likely to scare them off. Most brands target male teens and 20-somethings. Industry leader Red Bull, the first energy drink on the market, is now the “big arena band” of the bunch.” Monster is produced by Corona, Calif.-based Hansen Natural Corp.

How much caffeine do energy drinks contain? A Universityof Floridastudy found that some products, although served in cans two-thirds the size of a standard can of Coke, contain two to four times the amount of caffeine as that Coke. Energy drinks are unregulated in theUnited States, but the authors of theUniversity ofFlorida paper suggest warning labels for them.

And now energy drinks are moving toward bigger cans with the biggest, so far, is 24 ounces.

Think twice before sending your children out the door with an energy drink. Full of sugar and caffeine, energy drinks share the same health problems as soft drinks.

A Universityof Wisconsinstudy of 14 students found that two energy drink ingredients, caffeine and taurine, didn’t improve short-term memory but led to slower heart rates and higher blood pressure. Since some energy drink ingredients generally speed up heart rates, the researchers could only speculate on the cause. “Drink more than one and you get lots of sugar — 14 teaspoons in two cans, 21 teaspoons in three,” Be careful what you’re putting in your body as well as your children’s bodies. Health is something that you don’t want to take for granted. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Make sure you’re checked regularly as well.

What is Lifepak nano?

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

LifePak NANO

Invest in your Health.

It’s the wisest investment you’ll ever make.

A new scientific breakthrough from the unparalleled research teams at Pharmanex, LifePak NANO is an incredible leap in science.  There is nothing else in existence that comes anywhere close to LifePak Nano, and that is absolutely verified by science.

So, what makes LifePak Nano unique?  The challenge to nutrition in the past has always been that powerful fat-soluble antioxidants such as carotenoids and CoQ10 tend to bunch together in the intestine, making them difficult to absorb.  No matter how small the particles are, if they are bunched together, they cannot get through the intestinal walls.  That is why so much of what you are taking is wasted.  To greatly enhance absorption, Pharmanex Scientists actually encapsulate the individual molecules, causing them to separate.  This process prevents molecules from clinging together, so they are more available for easy absorption.  In the case of the extremely powerful antioxidant Coenzyme Q10, this process of nano encapsulation increases bioavailability by 5-10 times (Craft et al, 2005).  That means ten milligrams of Pharmanex NanoCoQ10TM compares to 50 to 100 mgs of other CoQ10 products!

LifePak Nano is the Rolls-Royce of supplements.

Boulder Chiropractor Recommends Krill Oil for Healthy fats

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Whether fish-derived or vegetarian, omega-3 has become a household term. Supplement sales continue to grow, and more and more foods are being fortified with the healthy fatty acids. But getting omega-3 foods into the mainstream remains a challenge.
Mainly, omega-3 is derived from fishes but lately there have been studies that show omega 3 can be found not only in the fish or vegetables but also in shrimps. Krill are tiny shrimp gaining attention as a rich source of omega-3, as well as other nutrients. There are about 85 species of the deepwater marine planktonic crustacean, or deepwater shrimp, which are the planet’s most abundant animal biomass and which when captured and converted to oil, pack 48 times the antioxidant punch of standard fish oils.
Krill oil is a newly discovered source of omega 3 acids. Various claims are made in support of krill oil as a superior source of omega 3 fatty acids. The effect of krill oil, at a lower dose of EPA + DHA (62.8%), was demonstrated to be similar to that of fish oil.
“Surprisingly, a dose of EPA and DHA derived from fish oil modulated fewer pathways than a krill oil-supplemented diet and did not modulate key metabolic pathways regulated by krill oil, including glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism and the mitochondrial respiratory chain.” Despite the changes in gene expression, no changes in blood levels of lipids, glucose or insulin were observed.
Data provide support for a role of krill oil in ameliorating abnormalities seen with obesity and insulin resistance.
“Clearly this study demonstrates that omega-3 fatty acids in phospholipid form, which is abundant in krill oil, is more bioactive than the corresponding triglyceride form of the omega-3 fatty acids,” said Dr Jamie Barger of LifeGen Technologies.
Lifepak® Nano provides an advanced nutritional foundation for a long and healthy life—full of vitality and energy—free of debilitating conditions associated with nutritional deficiencies and the aging process. It contains krill oil that regulates genes in the liver and influence the production of glucose, fat and cholesterol metabolism. Krill oil was associated with a down regulation of genes in the liver associated with the production of glucose, and those associated with lipid and cholesterol synthesis.

Boulder Chiropractor Recommends Krill Oil for Omega 3’s

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Krill are tiny shrimp gaining attention as a rich source of omega-3, as well as other nutrients. Krill when captured and converted to oil, pack 48 times the antioxidant punch of standard fish oils and is known to have beneficial health effects including improvements in glucose and lipid homeostasis and modulation of inflammation.
Supplementing the diet with krill oil may reduce genes in the liver and influence the reduction of glucose, fats and cholesterol and metabolism. This diet elicits changes in plasma levels of lipids, glucose, or insulin. Krill oil plays a good role in ameliorating abnormalities seen with obesity and insulin resistance.

In Between Coffee Mugs and Good Souls

Monday, September 12th, 2011

As seen in most TV ads, waking up in the cold morning, looking at the sunrise and a hand cup full of coffee could start your day perfectly. The aroma embodies the hard work of harvesting the beans from a vast field and the taste satisfies the buds as it is brewed from the finest ingredients. Coffee by definition is a brewed beverage with a dark, slightly acidic flavor prepared from the roasted seeds of the coffee plant, colloquially called coffee beans. The beans are found in coffee cherries, which grow on trees cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in equatorial Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa. And is one of the most consummated beverages in the world, creating a stimulating effect to humans.

The first cup of coffee I had was the one my grandma made when I was younger. The finely grounded coffee beans calm my body as the incorporated sweetness of the sugar gave me a hint that every sip is worth it. Since then, I have had countless mugs and cups of coffee from every corner of the globe. For me, food and drinks are an emotional experience. You enjoy your favorite cafes and restaurants in large part because of the way they make you feel. Simple moments are made even better by just having those little talks over a cup of good coffee plus a set of tasty pastry along the side. And then a friend of sent me a gift for my birthday. It was in an unusually packed red and green package, as though, it was Christmas already, with a gold ribbon on it. I opened it and saw two bags of gourmet coffee in it. I immediately transferred them into different canisters.

In one of my trips to Asia, I brought along with me one canister. It was a business trip in the middle of the year. Unlike America, the wet season lasts even longer in some parts of the Asian region and I’m so glad that I don’t have to drive myself to strangers’ streets just to find a cozy place to be and do my reports and maybe, drink coffee to stimulate my senses. There was a time that I got really cracked up with work and browsed my Facebook account and searched for “Ganovia coffee” in Google. Amazingly, there was very little information associated with the searches until I called my friend Kirsten. She said, she bought the coffee from her chiropractor who used to treat her spine curvature (Scoliosis) and she thought that I would like the taste plus its “Super Food” content. I’ve heard a lot of stuff containing there super food but I really don’t know what are the kinds, and I remembered she mentioned about a page on Facebook where I can look for more information about the content.

I learned that a certain Happy Berry contains rich amount of antioxidants, particularly carotenoids such as beta-carotene, Vitamins A, C, and E, which helps boosts the immunity and an anti oxidant called zeaxanthin which acts to protect the retina of the eye. I am very conscious about my eyesight because I spend substantial amount of time working in front of my computer and doing the paper works. The first time I heard that Cordyceps are good food for all I know; they thrive on moisture rich environment and are considered to be fungi. The silly looking is known as the “Healing Mushroom” to Ancient Chinese that has an anti inflammatory effect that is needed by the body to help fight infection and its relative, the Ganoderma Mushroom. In centuries, it is used to promote health and longevity in the Orient.

For the longest time I have been a coffee-holic and going to places just to find for freshly roasted, dark coloured heavenly tasted beverage, I find Ganovia Coffee as one of the greatest things that happened to brewing!

“The power of a man’s mind is directly proportional to the quantity of coffee he drinks.” – Sir James Mackintosh

Boulder Chiropractor Says Drink Healthy Coffee

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Network Family Wellness Center is excited to now stock Ganovia healthy organic coffee for our practice members . When you see the “Benefits” of Ganovia Coffee, you can’t help but want a cup. Now Ganovia U.S.A. makes it possible for you to have an unlimited supply. Pick some up at the office or at our online store www.shopnetworkwellness.com (under the wellness tab) and experience the difference and benefits of “The Best Gourmet Coffee in the World”

Healthy Organic Coffee

Coffee and Pesticides
Coffee is usually not grown in the United States and we therefore have no control over how many pesticides are sprayed on coffee crops. As such, coffee is a heavily sprayed crop, so drinking coffee is likely to expose you to a dose of pesticides with each cup.
Pesticides have been associated with a number of health problems such as:Prostate cancer and other cancers, Parkinson’s Disease, Miscarriages
If you choose to drink coffee, drinking organic coffee might reduce or eliminate the exposure to toxic herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. Another plus of organic coffee is that you will also be helping to protect the health of the people working in the coffee fields, as you will be helping to reduce their exposure to toxins as well.
Ganovia, has a passion for living healthy and having great coffee. Our hot beverages are unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Our gourmet blends are expertly roasted featuring a well-balanced, full-flavored experience where every sip finishes with divine smoothness. This isn’t your regular instant coffee. From powerful extracts to superior taste you’re going to love having coffee with Ganovia.
Their signature blend Classic Black features a delightful aroma of full-flavored enjoyment showcasing a light yet velvety smooth finish. It’s subtly bold with the essence of cocoa for instant perfection in every cup.
their deluxe Arabica Black features a robust blend of full-bodied flavor boasting a bold intensity that is richly smooth. This coffee is perfect for the mature palate seeking a dark and intense blend as smooth as silk.
Ganovia Coffee introduces Classic Black and Arabica Black! Both products are not only good but also good for you. What makes Ganovia so good and good for you? Three “healthy” ingredients:

Ganoderma Mushroom – also known as the Red Reishi Mushroom. Chinese medicine reports that this mushroom has antioxidant, analgesic (pain relieving), anti-inflammatory qualities. They say it lowers blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, and blood sugar. Known as the miraculous king of herbs, the ganoderma mushroom has been used for centuries to promote health and longevity. Containing hundreds of antioxidants, this “Super Food” is held in high regard in the Orient. Japan and China use this extract as a licensed medical treatment. This extract helps to promote a natural immune system to maintain balance in the body.
Goji Berry: a sweet tasting berry that grows in Tibet, the Himalyas, and Mongolia. Also nicknamed as the “Happy Berry” because of the sense of well being it seems to induce. Chinese medicine states this berry helps with eyesight, boosts sperm production, protects the liver and improves circulation among other things. Used in Chinese medicine for nearly 4,000 years, this “Super Food” is full of powerful antioxidants. It’s also high in protein and contains high levels of Vitamins C, A, E & B. In fact, goji berries contain more iron than spinach and more beta carotene than carrots. In China, this is known as their super energizing herb, and one can certainly see why!
Cordyceps : A Traditional Chinese medicine known as “The Healing Mushroom”. It used to treat liver, kidney and heart disease, as well as immune system disorders and diabetes. Its also reported to have anti-cancer properties. Some consider this to be the ultimate “Super Food” and is known for having restorative and energizing properties. In fact, this food can be found today in the pharmaceutical industry, supplement manufacturing, and as a food additive. It’s extremely high in beta-glucans, which helps to support proper oxygen levels in the body. By maintaining an oxygen-rich environment, your body is better
Ganovia Coffee is instant coffee and therefore all you need to add is hot water which makes it perfect when you’re on the go. There are no added sweeteners or naturally occurring sugars added to Ganovia Coffee.
Another concern of the other than toxic pesticides coffee is the caffeine content. High caffeine content can be related to heart challenges, anxiety, insomnia and many other problems . Both of the Ganovia blends have considerably lower caffeine content. The Ganovia Arabica has 67 mg of caffeine and Classic Black has 75 mg of caffeine.

How much caffeine is in a regular cup of coffee? Our trusted resources at the Mayo Clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.com) gave us this information! It was pretty interesting! Many people’s favorite treat is a Starbucks Vanilla Latte. We were shocked to find out that it has 150 mg of caffeine in a 16 oz cup! That’s there most popular size at Starbucks! Dunkin Donuts didn’t fare any better. Their 16 oz cup of coffee has between 143-206 mg of caffeine! A plain old generic brewed coffee can have as much as 95-200 mg for 8 oz of coffee, WOW!!
So although Ganovia is not caffeine free because it is Gourmet Coffee, it certainly has less caffeine than most coffee products. And many caffeine sensitive folk are able to drink it.
Type of coffee Caffeine: (milligrams)
Dunkin’ Donuts, brewed, 16 oz (480 mL) 143-206
Generic brewed, 8 oz (240 mL) 95-200
Generic brewed, decaffeinated, 8 oz (240 mL) 2-12
Generic instant, 8 oz (240 mL) 27-173
Generic instant, decaffeinated, 8 oz (240 mL) 2-12
Starbucks Espresso, 1 oz (30 mL) 58-75
Starbucks Vanilla Latte, 16 oz (480 mL) 150
Ganovia Arabica has 67 mg of caffeine and Classic Black has 75 mg of caffeine

Best Chiropractor Boulder | Care for your Spine and Nutrition Reduce Your Cancer Risk

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Mom was right after all—we need to eat our vegetables, and lots of them, if we want to protect ourselves against cancer.

According to the US Cancer Society 1.4 million new cancer cases are expected per year as well as over 500,000 deaths per year.   this makes cancer the 2nd leading cause of death even with all our nation’s  medical technology.  This carries a total annual price tag of $74 billion in direct medical costs.  The good News is that the American Cancer Society also says 75%-80% of cancer deaths are preventable.

According to a wave of studies, scientists have found compelling and consistent data associating diets rich in vegetables and fruits with a lower risk of cancer. This is great news for you.

Of the 200-plus global studies that were conducted, scientists safely conclude that a plant-rich diet puts people at a lower risk for developing tumors. Data from one particular area of research found that a diet rich in vegetables and grains slashed the risk of colon cancer by 40 percent. Another study found that women who regularly ate little to no vegetables were 25 percent more prone to develop breast cancer.

What is in vegetables and fruits that wards off cancer? John D. Potter, and epidemiologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle says, “We’re discovering a plethora of bioactive substance in plant foods.” This substance is being labeled as a “phytochemical”. In a nut shell, these phytochemicals are naturally occurring compounds that interfere with the growth of cancer by slowing down, stopping or even reversing cancer’s damage.

Additionally, studies have shown that if the rates of DNA damage exceed the rate of repair it, the accumulation of errors can overwhelm the cell and result in early aging, cell self distruction, or cancer. Inherited diseases associated with faulty DNA repair functioning result in premature aging, increased sensitivity to carcinogens, and correspondingly increased cancer risk. On the other hand, organisms with enhanced DNA repair systems, exhibit remarkable resistance to even the double-strand break-inducing effects of radioactivity, likely due to enhanced efficiency of DNA repair.   Independent of age, sex or taking nutritional supplements, long-term chiropractic care of two or more years re-established a normal physiological state of DNA repair in patients.

Patients receiving chiropractic care showed higher mean serum thiol levels, compared to patients with active disease, and produced some values that were higher than normal wellness values.

Simply stated, as we live life, we are subjected to physical, biochemical, and psychological stress. Our ability to repair damaged DNA is an important factor in health and longevity. Oxidative stress is now a broadly accepted theory of how we age and develop disease. Oxidative stress results in DNA damage, and inhibits DNA repair. In short, we now have evidence that chiropractic adjustments affect the chemistry of biological processes on a cellular level.

Take a proactive stance to protect your body from cancer. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits each day, and make chiropractic adjustments part of your healthy lifestyle. It all works together to give you a better quality of life.
